Pirate Theme Week Tie #3

We round out this theme week with the least-on-theme tie, but still relevant. I mean, pirates probably saw a lot of coral, right? And they occasionally ate at taverns that had repeated "tiki" patterns stamped onto the wall with a cut potato, right?

If you remember my cowgirl and the surfer girl ties, this first side is a good match for them. Very similar vibes and energy, not to mention the overall aesthetic. This could also almost go in the Dolly Imagination library children's book illustration theme week. Or, if I ever did one, a Mary Blair-ish week.

I don't have a perfect shirt for this second side, but an appropriately-scaled print on a button-up shirt, something with an island theme, would fit right in with this tie. I know it isn't explicitly tiki in design and I actually see that as a benefit; to my knowledge, this doesn't appropriate any cultures directly or indirectly.

I will, someday after retiring, open up a hole-in-the-wall cocktail club that features tiki drinks and has a bit of the aesthetic of Port of Call in New Orleans. The sort of place that has Cutty Sark mirrors up on the wall in the hall heading to the bathrooms and dollar bills stapled to the ceiling over the main bar. Thick wood tables that are chipped and damaged from years of use, with varnish that makes the top just a bit sticky but that no amount of wiping down with a wet rag will abate.

When I have that club, I will wear this tie through.

I wore the sides of this tie on the 23rd and 24th of September.
