Dolly Theme Week Tie #3

Eric Carle tie! Okay, so it's not actually Eric Carle. It's fabric that has animals that appear to be illustrated with cut paper, much like Eric Carle and his hungry caterpillar, but this is definitely not exactly his work.

It was hard to get both of these creatures aligned with the diamond on either end of this tie. If you look at the lower end on both of these images, I think those are the ends I will wear in front when I wear this tie in the future.

The owl is neat. I had higher hoped for it. It is yet to be determined if it is obvious what this tie presents while you are viewing it on a video call, but I imagine it looks good in-person. I mean, it does to me.

I did not know this about Eric, but he lived in Germany during WWII and was even conscripted near the end of the war to dig trenches (he was 15 at the time). He came over to the states, where he caught something of a break at the New York Times before being drafted into the US military.

Before that, after WWII but while he was still in Germany, he made posters for the Amerika Haus. I had never heard of these places before making this post, but they were apparently hubs for American culture that were dotted across former Nazi territory to help the people in those areas feel more culturally connected to the US. They even had a book bus!

I bet you didn't expect to learn something about WWII history on an Eric Carle-inspired bowtie post during a Dolly Parton Imagination Library theme week on the blog of an engineer, but here you are.
