Dolly Theme Week Tie #2

This is where we get into the children's book illustrations portion of Dolly week. The first side of this tie is probably more in tribute to that common play rug with the city streets on it than any specific storybook, but it still feels like it fits the theme.

I tried to get a good look at the fire station on one end and a school bus on the other, but it wasn't easy to do and I also wanted to reduce fabric waste since I am likely to make a copy of this tie for my own child, so the other end ended up being a police station, and I will make his with the bus as a featured element (he loves buses and fire trucks).

The other side of this tie is pretty basic and straight forward. Reminds me a bit of cars you would see in a 2D animated intro of a Disney'sThe Incredible's short. Just fun, little, and odd but familiar cars. I wonder if this side could qualify for polka dot week.

I wore the sides of this bowtie on the 1st and 2nd of September. Wow. September already. Maybe I won't make it to 100 this year, but if I don't, that will be a goal for me going into next year, and I think I've already acquired enough fabric to make that happen. Not that I'm not going to make multiple trips to my fabric stores before the end of the year.

On that note, one of my two favorite fabric stores in the area shut down last month. I can still shop with them online, but I think we can all agree that that is not the same experience. Websites don't do fabric shopping justice, and despite the fact that I can do that while sipping from an open mug of tea in my home office, I actually find it more of a chore to shop for fabric online. The only benefit to it, for me, is that I can now open up my options to any store that is small and independent; I don't feel beholden to shop at my own local store now that they are entirely online (which is where their business originated anyway).

Just so we see it in the same place as in other posts, I will again say that I wore the sides of this tie on the 1st and 2nd of September.
