LET'S KICKOFF THEME WEEK #1
I am going to be doing theme weeks in the back nine of this year, starting with this week's theme of the flag of the United States of America, as we prepare to celebrate our semiquincentennial
This is an exceptional tie because of what it represents:
It is the last tie of the first half of the year, nearly hitting 50 ties.
It kicks off the first of my intentional theme weeks
It is the first I've made that is intended to be worn with opposing sides at the same time. I'll explain more in a moment.
This post catches my up to the present time. I will, from here on in, post the ties when I wear them.
I am doing this post a little differently, putting more of the text below and not commenting on the first side above the gallery.
You will have by now noticed that the photos both have one end with white stars on a blue field and one side with blue and red stripes. I did this because I wanted the stars to peak out the edge of the stripes, reminiscent of the flag itself. The real challenge here was remembering, when I went to tie it, which side would need to be placed where so the blue would be on the "correct" end of the bow.
This is likely an idea I will explore further. I have a tie coming up later in the week or early next week that is made from what I believe to be actual American flag fabric. Like, the fabric they use to make actual flags. I bought it from a warehouse fabric store in Minneapolis in April and it is, to date, the most expensive fabric I've ever made a bowtie from.
The next theme week, starting some time next week or the week of the 13th, is going to be either polka dots (a tie style I normally avoid), or Dungeons and Dragons.
I wore the iterations of this bowtie on the 29th and 30th of June.
