Bowtie #56

This one looks really great when tied. I purchased the fabric, which looks like it was made using batik methods, because I thought the triangle would accentuate but also contrast with the diamond tip of the ties. It does, and I am happy I chose to make one side match the direction of the triangle and one side oppose it.

I once made a batik pillow with the face of Daffy Duck on it for an home economics class in middle school. I learned to draw his face from a cereal box and he became my default sketch. I lost the pillow while flying to or from South Africa. I think at the Atlanta airport.

This tie, on both sides, begs to be made from silk.

I was going to do another theme week, which will make more sense when you see the next tie, but I didn't want to lean into batik/tie-die for a theme, so the reverse of this tie is just a fun color and shape match.

Both sides of this tie, when tied, make me feel like I am getting ready to watch a computer screen as we launch people into space to beat the Russians to the moon. Especially when I wear my black "Princeton" model Penguin prescription glasses. I don't have many actual vintage bowties, so these sides fill a bit of that aesthetic niche. Or itch.

One day I will post here some of the bowties that were my go-to choices before I started this project, especially the vintage ties. There is a fun but very tiny clip-on that would pair well with the batik side of this tie. I think it's from the 30's, but I don't know why I think that.

I am also using a new camera setup to take these photos. I've had the camera for a while, and the lights, but never combined them for a tie until now. The fabric photo for the cover of this post was taken, as with all other photos on this blog to-date, with my phone camera.

I wore the iterations of this bowtie on the 20th and 21st of July. .
