Bowtie #52.5

This wraps up Flag Week, though I do have another flag bowtie in the works, and there is a side of this bowtie I don't plan to wear until November.

This is another tie on which both ends of the tie are not the same print. When this is tied, the stars peek out from behind the stripes.

I can technically wear it all-stripes or all-stars (with a blend of small and large stars).

The fabric I bought for the stripes and the stars was the most expensive fabric I ever purchased, and I purchased more than I needed (by a couple of yards). I think it is legitimately flag fabric, except I can't figure how to make a field of stars on blue that doesn't cut off stars.

Fun fact, depending on how you count the stars on the tie:

• Whole stars, stars tied on front, we have 13 stars, for the original colonies

• 24 whole stars on the entire large-star side, represents Missouri, the 24th state added to the union, 1821

• 32 stars on the "bow" part of the star tie, represents Minnesota, the 32nd state added to the union, 1858

• 38 mostly-visible stars on the whole star side, represents Colorado, the 38th state added to the union, during our first centennial, 1876.

• 63 totals stars with any part visible on the whole large-star side, would represent the 63rd state, which could be any one of these proposed future states:

  • District of Columbia

  • Puerto Rico

  • Guam

  • US Virgin Islands

  • Philippines

  • Navajo Nation

  • Jefferson

  • North Colorado

  • Delmarva

  • South Florida

  • Forgottonia

  • Superior

  • Absaroka

I wore the large-star iteration of this tie on the 4th of July, and I expect to wear the small-star side on November 3rd
